Navgrah Shanti Puja

नवग्रह शांति पूजा

About this puja

Navgrah Shanti is the pujan of the nine grahas — Surya, Chandra, Mangal, Budh, Guru, Shukra, Shani, Rahu and Ketu — worshipped together on a mandal drawn for them.

Each graha has its own mantra, its own samidha and its own grain. The jaap and the havan use the ones belonging to the graha the patrika points to, which is why the birth details are asked for in advance.

It is performed at Trimbakeshwar when a family is already there for another vidhi, and at the family’s own house in Nashik when it is kept on its own.

When families perform it

  • When a jyotishi has advised a shanti for a particular graha after reading the patrika.
  • At the start of a mahadasha or an antardasha.
  • Before a wedding, a thread ceremony, or a move into a new house.

On the day

  1. Sankalp and Ganesh pujan, then Kalash sthapana.

  2. The navgrah mandal drawn, and all nine grahas worshipped on it.

  3. Jaap and havan for the graha the patrika indicates, then aarti and daan.

Before you come

What to bring and wear

  • Name, and the date, time and place of birth of the person sitting
  • The janam patrika, if the family has a copy
  • A clean change of clothes

Common questions

Can only one graha be worshipped?

Families often ask for a single graha shanti. All nine are still worshipped on the mandal, and the jaap is directed to that one graha.

What if the birth time is not exact?

Send it as an approximate time and say so. Guruji will tell you whether the vidhi can go ahead on that basis.
