About this puja
Rudrabhishek is the bathing of the Shivling while the Rudra path — the Namakam and Chamakam of the Yajurveda — is recited over it.
The abhishek is offered in turn with jal, panchamrit, milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugar, and bel patra, white flowers and bhasma are placed on the ling. A single path takes a morning; Laghurudra and Maharudra need eleven or more purohits reciting together.
At Trimbakeshwar it is offered at the mandir, within the mandir’s own timings. At a house in Nashik it is performed before the family’s own Shivling.
When families perform it
- On a Shravan Monday, on Mahashivratri, or on a Pradosh.
- As a sankalp a family keeps on a birthday or an anniversary.
- When a family is visiting Trimbakeshwar and wishes to offer abhishek at the mandir.

Can the whole family sit for it?
Yes, families usually sit together, with the sankalp spoken in the name of one member or of the head of the house.
Can it be done on the day we arrive?
Often it can, depending on the mandir timings and which purohits are free that day. Message a day or two ahead where you can.
